Job Description

Team 

Our Finance team at Deezer is at the heart of strategic decision-making, providing the financial insights that fuel our growth and innovation. We're responsible for analyzing company performance, elaborating and monitoring budget exercises, and assessing the financial viability of operational projects.

Role

This Lead FP&A role is central to Deezer's strategic objectives, owning the complex and high-impact Royalties and Music Rights scope. You will maintain financial integrity through precise forecasts, analyses, and strategic recommendations for royalties – our largest cost driver. Your work will directly support crucial negotiations with labels and publishers, ensuring financially sound agreements and boosting profitability. You'll also be instrumental in developing innovative royalty payment models, pushing beyond traditional approaches to sustain Deezer's competitive edge and deliver exceptional music experiences.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Financial Analysis & Reporting:

    • Contribute to monthly royalty accounting closings, ensuring data accuracy.

    • Perform deep dives into gross margin and KPI variances, identifying trends, and communicate sharp analyses to management, highlighting risks and opportunities.

  • Strategic Planning & Modeling:

    • Lead gross margin projections in bi-yearly planning, developing robust forecasts for financial strategy.

    • Build complex royalty models and scenarios, providing critical insights for strategy and negotiations.

    • Engage and challenge stakeholders on business strategy and financial risks.

  • Operational Excellence & Strategic Business Partnering:

    • Support music label and publisher negotiations with comprehensive royalty modeling and financial insights.

    • Drive operational excellence initiatives to improve end-to-end royalty processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Music Industry Relations, Royalty & Reporting, Legal, other Finance teams) to ensure seamless operations, compliance, and automated processes.

    • Support cash management decisions related to royalty payments.

What We've Achieved and What We’ll Do With You

Our team is proud of several recent impactful achievements:

  • We identified and subsequently canceled underperforming revenue streams that were costing Deezer in excess of several hundreds of thousands of euros annually due to unfavorable royalty structures.

  • We've significantly reduced our exposure to audit risks by implementing more robust and automated processes, saving the company potentially millions of euros in overpayments or underpayments that could lead to costly audits.

  • We developed and deployed enhanced reporting dashboards that provide real-time insights into gross margin performance, enabling faster and more informed business decisions.

With you on board, we will tackle ambitious strategic goals, including:

  • Automating 20% of our royalty calculation and reporting processes within the next year, freeing up significant team capacity and increasing accuracy.

  • Developing innovative and industry-leading royalty payment models that could set new precedents within the music industry.

  • Minimizing the risk of audit discrepancies to near zero by further refining our internal controls and data validation processes, potentially saving millions in the long run.

Growth & Development

You'll gain deep expertise in the highly specialized and complex field of music royalties within a dynamic tech environment. You'll have direct exposure to and collaborate with senior executives including the CFO and SVP Music Industry, regularly leading and participating in high-stakes discussions.

 

Qualifications

A Little Bit About You

You're a skilled finance professional with 6-10 years of experience in Corporate Finance, FP&A, or Audit. Experience in tech or media is a plus. You're great at financial modeling and handling large amounts of data, especially using Excel, to find issues and create solutions. You work well independently and are proactive in solving problems, always looking for ways to improve processes. You're also confident and resilient, able to challenge ideas constructively and build strong relationships with different teams in a fast-paced, changing environment.
